  • What are the advantages of seeking refuge in Hanumanji
  • Seeking refuge in Hanumanji, we enjoy happiness of every kind.
  • Why should we not complain about things going wrong in our lives? We should no complain because God has a plan and eventually in his plan, everything works out for the best

In this context, we narrated a story of Saint Malidasa, moral of which is - god as a protector at our side, we have nothing to fear.

Hoat Na Aagya Binu Paisare
The kids did an impromptu role play exercise – hanuman is at the entrance of Lord Rama’s temple. The kids had to show proof of how they loved the Lord before Hanuman will let them inside the temple. It was wonderful to hear the kids come up with how they express their love to the lord – from singing bhajans to reciting God’s name and offering of food to God every day.

March 18, 2012 - Week 10 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Victorious: 

Hanuman emerged victorious due to the blessing of Sri Rama, but also by believing in himself

Story Recap: How did hanuman emerge victorious in finding Sita?

Stories/Tales: 
Dinesh wanted to succeed in wrestling, but his friends mocked at him because he was slim. He practiced his technique every day, built up endurance and strength by doing exercises and running. He became a wrestling champion through hard work and believing in himself (thanks to his grandma’s advice). One can achieve anything one wants by hard work, dedication and having confidence in your abilities
 
A farmer’s bullock cart got stuck in the mud on his way to the market to sell fruits. He was angry with god that he got stuck in spite of singing bhajans. Then a young boy came by and advised him to remove some of his baskets and then pull the cart out of the mud, and thus helped the farmer to get his cart unstuck. One should take the initiative to try different things to get out of a difficult situation. Moral: God helps those that help themselves (i.e. take initiative to succeed)

March 4, 2012 - Week 8 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Missionary: 

How did Hanumanji suceed his his Mission? By chanting Rama Nama, Hanumanji succeed in His Mission

How Did Hanumanji Cross the Ocean? By placing complete faith in Lord Rama, Hanumanji leapt over the ocean.

Activity 1:Recap from Ramayana 

Stories/Tales: Search begins, the story of how the search for sita began. Sampati's involvement.

Moral of the story : Regardless of how impossible the task might be, chanting and having complete faith in Lord Rama, tasks can be accomplished.

What does Hanumanji Teach us?

Hanumanji teaches us to let our imagination and our aim run as high as the sun, and try to achieve them fearlessly

Activity 1 - Puzzle Search: with words from stories and discussed the meaning of it.

Stories/Tales: Akbar & Birbal stories - Be Fearless to convey Truth.
Fearless Edmund Hillary, the first man to reach Mount Everest Peak.
 
Birbal by being fearless in his acquaintanceship with Akbar the great, he became the famous minister in the court of King Akbara. He became widely known as Birbala,since then.
 
Moral : Do not be afraid of failures, and achieve your goals fearlessly

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Advisor: 

How is Sri Hanuman an Advisor?

Sri Hanuman is an advisor becuase He advised Vibhishana to surrende to Lord Rama.

What is the glory and power of Rama Nama?

Chanting Rama Nama helps us to accomplish difficult tasks with ease.

Activity 1 - Puzzle Search: with words from stories and discussed the meaning of it.

Stories/Tales - Hanuman meets Vibhishana: Ask your kids how Hanumanji meet Vibhishana and in what circumstances.
Moral of the Story was Surrender at the feet of Lord and be the winner and a wise person.

February 12, 2012 - Week 5 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Wise Minister: 

We talked about Why Hanumanji is addressed as a wise minister?

Hanumanji told sugriva to find out more details before trying to run away.

What is the name and meaning of the mountain on which Sugriva was Staying.?

The mountain is called Rsyamukha and its means facing the rsi or leaning from rsi.

Activity 1 - Making the mask of Lord Ganesha: Thinking about Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Listen well, think about what is heard and then act accordingly. This is the key to Obstacle - free life. With this mention all the children made a mask with paper plates and few decorations - Ganesha's face.
Stories/Tales: Told a couple of stories and discussed the moral behind these stories. 
  • How Sugriva Met Lord Rama
  • Another story relating the moral of how you can become the company you keep.So making good choices and been around good people always give you or benefit you good. Ask you children about the King and the Parrot

February 5, 2012 - Week 4 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Vishnu Sahasranamam: 


Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Glorious: 

We talked about how Hanumanji became glorious and similarly, what can one do to achieve this?

One can become glorious like Hanumanji by working hard, and using whatever gifts God has given to us to the best of the abilities.

Activity 1: Do Something Nice: Talked about circumstances when kids did something nice to someone and how they felt about the same.
Activity 2: May I... One by one each kid starting saying something nice about the person sitting to his or her right. This was played to impart them to learn the art of finding good things in others and praise them for good qualities.
 
Stories/Tales: Told a couple of stories and discussed the moral behind these stories. 
  • Finding fault in a person is very easy compare to praising someone. So, To praise someone takes a rare person. Story of King and Display of Painting.
  • How does One gain Glory? - Not by dreaming or talking about it, but only through real hard work, one can gain glory. Practice makes one perfect.
  • Shared a story of Aladdin Magic lamp, where it shows that Man's Greatness lies in his efforts. Please ask you kids to share the same story (4 boys and MagicLamp). Moral of which was God has given us so much, Do not beg, but work hard and achieve.

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the Life Saviour: 

We talked about How Hanumanji become the Life Saviour of Lakhsmana?

He became the life savior by getting Samgeevani Parvatha and saved Lasksmana’s life in the war and helped Sri Rama.

Activity: WE played a Ready, Set, Go game checked how fast we can move/organize to do things.

Hanuman Chalisa: Chanted previous verses and learnt caupai's 19 and 20.

January 22, 2012 - Week 2 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Topic of the day - Sri Hanuman, the commander:
We talked about

      • How did Hanumanji become the commander? - He became the commander by killing demons for Sri Rama
      • Why us Ravana considered a demon? He had 10 heads and used all of them for selfish and personal motives. 
      • What are the demons of our hearts? Just like how Ravana had 10 heads, we all have demon's in us. There demons are not outside but are in our own hearts. They are anger, jealously, hatred, fear, pride, selfish, lying,greed and cheating.Under the influence of these monsters, we behave like Ravana. So, try not to have these traits in you and behave like Ravana, but attempt to eradicate these demons in you as Hanumanji did and be a favorite to Lord Rama.

Activity: We played a bowling game with all these bad qualities as PINS and knocked off as many as we can as part of eradicating Ravana within us.

January 15, 2012 - Week 1 Update for Veera Hanuman Class

Hari Om!

 Level 2B now called Veera Hanuman class (starting from Spring 2012) had a good start on Sunday, January 15th. We have a few new students joining our Hanuman group, and we all welcome them to our Gurukulam family.

Since it was a first class after the winter break, we did a re-cap/quiz like on Hanuman and the story Ramayana. 

Hanuman Chalisa:  Caupai's 16 and 17 were taught as part of Hanuman Chalisa - please help the children practice them this week at home.

SuryaNamaskaras: We had yoga teachers visit our class to teach and do SuryaNamaskaras. It was good to see all kids do the yoga postures with interest. We will continue to do this as part of our class routine.

Likhita Japa: We ended the session with a 3 minute meditation using Likitha Japa.
